Film through carry on scanners

Navigating airport security can be a challenge for photography enthusiasts, particularly regarding undeveloped film. At Geneva airport, staff denied the option for 'hand checking' of my various rolls, including Cinestill ISO 800, and my Kodak ISO 800 disposable camera. They assured me that the scanners are safe and won’t damage the film, but I can’t help but wonder about the experiences of others. What are your thoughts on this?
