Before having kids, I used to go out with a backpack carrying my Nikon D7200 and 2–3 lenses. Then life changed — I now have two (lovely) small kids (2–3 years old), and suddenly every outing already comes with a full load of “kid logistics.” At some point, adding a camera bag on top of that just stopped making sense. Too much. And little by little, I stopped shooting altogether. Which I really miss.

Capturing the Wild: A Hiker's Journey Through Lens and Landscape
Hey everyone, so i'm an avid hiker, hunter and fisherman. I love all things outdoors. I have never really been into photography, but I do find myself often taking photos during my trips. It ranges from wildlife and scenery to photos of what I've caught fishing and how my camp for the night looks. These photos are mainly used to show my dad (who is also an outdoorsy person) and to look at by myself and relive some of my trips after some time has passed. Right now I'm kind of on the fence on whether I should buy a real camera instead of just shooting on my phone. I've a oneplus 12, so it's not really the best for photos and I would prefer to keep it turned off in my backpack anyway. One of the recent trips I went on, I saw a couple of grouse sitting up a tree about 300m away. With my phone the photos were complete garbage, but maybe with a proper camera you could make out the fact that there was infact a grouse right there. I'd like to note that I'm not really fond of post processing my photos. I would much more prefer to grab my camera, shoot, and be done with it. All the photos I take are just quick shots whenever I notice something that looks cool for some reason. I also don't really bother trying to take the best photo possible because I don't really have an understanding of photography. So I guess the question is, is it worth getting a proper camera, just to take some quick pictures from my adventures to share with family and relive those trips? Finding Focus: A Photographer's Journey Towards Minimalist Gear.
I am a gear hoarder, since I started photography in 2016 I was 15 at that timeI was blessed enough to be able to get the gear I wanted I started with a Nikon d5500 with a kit 18-140 lens love it so much, but then I learned about new glass and especially about Sigma lenses I bought a 12-14 for my first trip to the US ( New York) to shoot wide angles of the city,, I cherished this lens so much after that a friend let me borrow a sigma 50mm 1,4 which was and still is a crazy lens and sometimes I still miss it, after that I added the famous Sigma 18-35 1.8 to this day the best lens I think I ever used it lived permanently on my camera. In 2022 I gave in and decided to ditch Nikon and see that was up with Sony so I sold all the gear and got myself the A7IV with a sigma 28-70 2.8 which lived permanently on my camera for 2-3 years after that I decided I wanted to get a small prime because I missed the 50 mm 1.4 so I got the Sony 35 mm 1.8 small and portable lens and good for night photography my end goal was to be covered from 28mm to 200 over the years I managed to test the tamron 70-300 for some shoots I liked it but it was too big so I returned it, last year when Sigma released the 20-200 I taught it was be perfect lens for me Wide and tele at the same time with a small trade off regarding the F stops so I think for my mental sake I'll try to do a 180 and run with the 20-200 for a while, yes I'll miss the low light capabilities of the low F stop lenses but if it will help me get rid of decision fatigue I'll be happy do to so for a while. For example I recently went for a solo trip to Singapore and could focus on photography and honestly bringing all my lenses with me felt anxious because I couldn't decide what to bring with me. Any of you have been in the same scenario when after years you realized you might be happy with only one lens? Compact Camera vs. Phone: Will Your Smartphone Steal the Spotlight?
So my old phone died and considering of buying new one, have budget of entry level flagship, but I am afraid that I will use computational phone photography, rather than my ZV1 m1 (I am new to manual photography). A lot of people who own compact cameras like the Sony RX100 or ZV-1 also seem to have flagship phones (iPhone, Samsung Ultra, etc.). So I’m wondering doesn’t the phone end up replacing the camera most of the time? Like: Phone is always in your pocket Faster to shoot + edit + share Computational photography is really good now So even if the compact camera has better image quality, do people actually use it regularly, or does it just come out for specific situations? For those who own both: What do you realistically use more? When do you pick up the camera instead of your phone? Any regrets buying a compact camera?
