White Balance Question

Our take

In the context of photography, achieving the ideal white balance is crucial for capturing warm and natural skin tones, especially in outdoor portraits. The question at hand presents a scenario where a photographer seeks to enhance skin tones on a sunny day. While the options include Cloudy, Tungsten, Sunny, and Flash, the choice of setting significantly influences the overall warmth of the image.

I am an Art & Photography teacher, in this year's exam I believe the exam board placed a trick question which I am getting mixed results from teachers a photographers which is the correct answer.

Usually the questions are worded as "which setting is most appropriate for the conditions". I believe the answer is Cloudy but a colleague thinks Flash (without the flash). Most students answered Sunny not reading the question properly.

What do you believe the answer is and why?

A photographer wants to take a portrait image outdoors on a sunny day.

Which white balance setting would give the warmest skin tone?

☐ Flash
