A local food brand i did a spec ad for an assignment for reached out to work w me!
there was one project where they were collaborating with a few culinary professionals for a collab product.
and then i created a quote for that.
for some reason they scrapped that idea, and they shared instead they needed photos for their brand and products.
and thennn they asked me in their project inquiry "With a tighter and more streamlined scope in mind, would there be room to include access to a selection of unretouched raw photos for more flexible use over time
If there’s a version of the shoot that keeps things efficient on your end while giving us a bit more flexibility on deliverables, we’d love to explore that with you."
I am a photography student and emerging photographer so this is my first time navigating these situations. I'm feeling quite iffy.
Okay obviously I understand to not give away your RAWs to clients, pre shit thing to do esp as an emerging photographer. but I've heard about raw buyouts...? Charge double or triple or idk a high price, create a contract about not crediting me etc.
I've also asked AI/gemini n it suggested to replace this option and share some photos with basic editing.
idk. but that just feels unfinished. aaaaa. it feels like either do a shoot no raws, or buyout the raws and I can't use it for my portfolio:/ pretty tough because I actually enjoy this brand I actual eat their products!
I'm learning and learning, so I am curious to understand why brands need such and how to go about this.

I shoot semi-regularly and have done portraits of friends and family, including editing in Lightroom. Ideally, I'd like to find someone willing to do the shoot and provide the images unedited — essentially, I just want to pay for the RAW files. I understand that most photographers prefer not to share RAW files for a variety of reasons: they're essentially the negatives, there are concerns about the images being poorly edited and still associated with the photographer's name, and so on. It also seems like a lot of the frustration comes from clients asking for RAWs after the fact. With all of that in mind, my plan would be to bring this up during the initial outreach to the photographer, not after. Would you be upset or annoyed if a potential client proposed this arrangement upfront? And for those who would be open to it, how would skipping the editing phase affect your pricing? - Raw imagesHey guys, I’m an amateur photographer , just started out and I needed some shots to gain some experience and confidence as a photographer. So I asked a friend to do an outdoor shoot for free, another one of my friends volunteered as well so I took shots of both of them. They came out really well and I edited them because I want my brand to be more vintage. My friend that originally came mostly complained the entire time and wasn’t a very good sport. But the other was very willing to help and was by far an outstanding model. I was a little annoyed and at the end of the shoot he asked to upload all of the original photos to his laptop, and I declined. And sent over the edited photos. - Photographer refuses to show me any photos beyond her final edit, is this normal practice?Hi everyone. I recently hired a photographer to shoot promotional images for an upcoming album release. We agreed she would use both film and digital cameras, and together we shot what must have been hundreds of images. A few days later, I received 20 black-and-white film scans, and honestly, they’re not really what I was looking for. When I asked to see some of the other photos, she flatly refused. As far as she’s concerned, those 20 are the best of the shoot and that’s the end of it. We’ve been going back and forth on this for several weeks now, and she won’t budge. For context: I’ve worked with photographers on a number of projects and have always been involved in the selection process without any issues. On top of that, we specifically agreed to shoot on both film and digital, yet I only received film images. I’m not asking for RAW files or full-resolution exports. Just low-res JPEGs so I can browse through what was captured and see if anything appeals to me beyond her edit. I’ve been clear that I have no intention of publishing those previews. I genuinely don’t understand what the concern is. Is this standard practice among professional photographers? Should I have had a more explicit agreement in place from the start? - Client wants me to share all my photos after I delivered what was stipulated.Hey everyone, I’m looking for some perspective from more experienced photographers on how to handle this situation. I recently shot a small civil wedding (about 2 hours of coverage which the were basically them signing papers in their house and eating/being gathered). Before the event, I clearly communicated in writing that the final delivery would be around 40 edited photos. During the shoot, I ended up taking around 500 photos total, which includes: bursts of the same moment test shots for exposure/framing duplicates shots where someone blinked, moved, etc. As expected, after culling and editing, I delivered a curated gallery of 60+ edited images (so actually more than what I initially mentioned). Now the client is questioning why they didn’t receive more photos, since they remember I mentioned I took around 500. They’re asking for access to all the photos, including the ones that weren’t selected. From my perspective: The final delivery is meant to be a curated selection of the best images The remaining photos are either duplicates, test shots, or not up to standard I don’t normally deliver unculled/unedited images as part of my workflow I did offer to: 👉 review any specific moments or people they feel are missing 👉 and include additional images if there are any worth delivering But I’m not comfortable sending the full unculled gallery. They look like garbage and it’s through editing that I make them look great (as they already said they were spectacular) My questions: How do you usually explain the difference between total shots vs final deliverables? Do any of you ever provide access to all images? If so, under what conditions? Would you stand firm here or handle it differently?
